 We
named this establishment The Rock for various symbolic reasons:
It is situated in a rocky part of Soweto called Rockville;
during the Soweto Riots students used rocks and stones to defend themeselves
from the security forces;
and historically young men would always congregate (blom) near a rock or street
corner.
But most importantly, we wanted to create an
environment that allows our patrons and visitors to form rock solid
friendships - making friends everyday.
Established in Rockville in 1998, this hang-out spot is situated just off Old
Potchefstroom Road, between Regina  Mundi
(the world famous struggle church) and the Soweto Cricket Oval (where some of
the world's best have played!).
The venue consists of a large
bar area (with funky drink-cooling ice trough), marquee, private
lounge area and
dance floor.
Be sure to spend some time on the roof deck which has spectacular views
of Soweto making it the best "Sundowner" spot in Soweto!!
There is ample parking with 24hr security. Live jazz sessions take place regularly
whilst the restaurant serves wholesome traditional township cuisine.
